Each game must start with six (6) players per team, including a minimum of one (1) female and one (1) male.
Team rosters may consist of a minimum of six (6) and a maximum of eight (8) players.
The object of Dodgeball is to throw the ball at the opposing team and have contact with one or more opponents. Any person contacted by the ball on the fly is out of the game. Once the ball makes contact with any part of the court (including the tarps that divide the courts) the ball is dead. If the ball is caught on the fly by the opposing team, the player throwing the ball is out and any player that the ball came into contact with prior to the catch remains in the game.
When a thrown ball is caught, a sidelined member of the team who caught the ball is then able to come back onto the court and resume play.
Sidelined players return to play in the order they were taken out.
Play begins with balls on centerline of court, all players must be behind the back boundary line when whistle blows.
The players then retrieve the balls from center court, the ball MUST be "cleared" behind the 3/4's mark before being considered in play and thrown. Teams may toss the ball to someone behind the 3/4 line at which time the ball is considered in play and may be thrown.
If a player attempts to block a ball with his/her ball and drops their ball, they will be ruled out unless the ball being thrown was caught by a teammate before coming into contact with the court, and in that case, the person throwing the ball will be ruled out.
If a thrown ball hits you and gets airborne, if you catch it before it hits anyone or anything it is considered a caught ball removing the player throwing it.
In the event of a headshot, the player who gets hit with the ball will be called out unless the official declares it an intentional shot to the head. In this case, the player throwing the ball will be ruled out and will be suspended for the remainder of the match and any subsequent matches.
Once a player is knocked out, he/she must leave the game and stand in the team's designated "out" zone. A player leaving the court may not block any balls exiting the court.
Any player leaving the playing area to retrieve a ball thrown outside the regulation playing field will be called out. Volunteers will be in charge of retrieving balls that are outside of the playing area. These balls will be placed in the neutral zone (the centerline of the court).
There are no time outs during the game. Only the official may stop play.
If any player holds a ball more than 15 seconds they must roll the ball over to the opposing team's side. Failure to immediately deliver the ball upon warning of the official will result in the player being called out.
A team wins the game when all of the opposing players have been knocked out.
Any contact with clothing by the ball results in a hit and you are sidelined.
Late hits may occur when several balls are thrown at one individual, the first hitting him, several others may follow, exercise sportsmanship in these cases. The official will determine if it is a deliberate late throw, any arguing with the call or opposing players will result in ejection from the game.
Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be awarded to the team members of the top 3 finishers (maximum 8 medals per team).
