The game is played with ten (10) players per team, with a minimum of five (5) males and five (5) females per team.
Teams have the option to use up to twelve (12) players (6 male, 6 female) in their batting order, but only ten (10) players are allowed to play in the field.
Team rosters may consist of a minimum of ten (10) and a maximum of sixteen (16) players.
The team captain must provide a line-up card to the home plate umpire before every game. Batters must alternate female/male in lineup.
Teams are allowed to start the game with eight (8) players (4 male, 4 female). If a team does not have five (5) females/males for a particular game, a “ghost” player shall be written into the batting order and represents an automatic out for each female/male under the minimum.
The Tournament will be double elimination. Teams forfeiting their first game in the tournament will be forfeited out of the tournament. If a team forfeits a game after having already played a game or games in the tournament, that forfeit will be counted as a loss.
You must be ready to play when your team is called. Failure to show up in a reasonable amount of time will be considered a forfeit.
Each team must have like-colored or matching jerseys or shirts for each player.
Games are seven (7) full innings or 55 minutes, whichever comes first.
Brackets will be posted on the PCG website at least 2 weeks prior to the Event. Teams listed on the top bracket will be designated the VISITING team. Teams listed on the bottom bracket will be designated the HOME team. A coin toss will decide home and visitors of subsequent games.
A three pitch warm-up before and during the game is allowed. No infield practice is permitted between innings.
The pitching arc must be 6 to 10 feet above the ground.
Two (2) males and (2) females must take defensive positions in both the infield and the outfield. The pitcher and catcher must be of different gender.
When a male batter receives a base on balls or intentional walk, he will be awarded first and second base with following female batter having the option to walk or bat.
A 12-inch softball will be used for both males and females.
Batters are allowed three (3) balls for a walk, two (2) strikes for an out. All foul balls count as strikes.
The batting team has three outs per inning. An out results due to the following: -two strikes. -a ball caught on the fly. -base runner is tagged or forced out. -see ghost batter rule above. |
A ball will be considered foul when it travels past the first or third base on the outside or if a player standing outside the first and third base lines picks it up before the ball reaches the bases. If a player touches the ball while still inside the baselines then the ball is considered fair. Once the ball travels past the inside of the first and third base on the ground it is a fair ball even if it travels outside the baseline after reaching the bases. A ball that lands on the boundary line is a fair ball.
No stealing, leading off or sliding into any base--a runner cannot leave a base until the ball is hit. Players who lead off will be called out.
Pinch runners are allowed for injured players only. The pinch runner must be of the same sex as the injured player.
In case of an overthrow by the defense, the runner may advance only one base if thrown into foul territory. The base is not free and the runner can be tagged out while not on the base. The runner has the option to advance as many bases as he/she desires on an overthrow in fair territory.
Once the pitcher has the ball in control AND on the mound, the play is over.
Re-entry rule will be in effect. That is, a player may be replaced at any time by a player who is on the 16-person roster. Substitute players must enter the game in a field position first. The original player may re-enter the game once, providing he/she re-enters in the same batting position and substitutes for the same player who replaced him/her. The original player must re-enter the game in a field position. NOTE: Players in the field can switch positions with other players in the field.
A game may be ended at the discretion of the losing team if the losing team is down by ten (10) or more runs at any point in the game.
If it appears that the time limit will be reached prior to the completion of seven (7) full innings the umpire shall end the game after completion of the home team final at-bat. If the referee attempts to start an additional inning and is not allowed to complete a full inning due to expiration time, the final score will be the score at the end of the last full inning.
In case of a tie, the winner shall be determined by whoever wins the next full inning (Both teams get at-bats). In tie-breaker innings, each team shall play short one additional fielder for each additional inning until winner is determined. |
The team captain is expected to represent his/her team. Only the team captain can protest, in which case the team captain must immediately protest in writing on the official score sheet. The Corporate Games officials decision is final for the purpose of that game after reviewing the protest.
Flagrant or continuous misconduct will result in the dismissal of the offending player. Gross misconduct (fighting, for example) by any player will result in suspension for life from Portland Corporate Games.
Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be awarded to the team members of the top 3 finishers (maximum 10 medals per team).
